Economics for Success encourages grades 9 and 10 students to reflect on the advantages of remaining in school to acquire the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed for long-term career success. Many exciting options are made available for students who graduate high school. Economics for Success helps explore and manage their job and career choices by focusing on the direct links between further education and personal goals.

Students describe the program as an eye-opening experience in which they learned for the first time what it takes to live in the real world and the many skills needed to be a successful and independent individual. Students will:

  • Discover the importance of personal and financial planning.

  • Gain the skills to identify and attain long-term goals.

  • Learn about the job application process.

  • Interact with and learn from the experiences of dedicated volunteer role models from the business community.

The program itself consists of four one-hour lessons, often conducted in a one day format. Junior Achievement provides teachers with everything they need including professionally developed classroom materials and trained volunteers.
