  Junior Achievement of British Columbia

At Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC), we believe in the power and potential of today’s youth. One day they will succeed us in all professions and even be called on to create new ones. This emerging generation has a lot to offer and at JABC, we aim to be a vital stepping stone towards their success!

Our History

Junior Achievement (JA) was founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, Chairman of Strathmore Paper in Springfield, Massachusetts and has become the world’s largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about business. With over 120 charters world wide, JA brings a global view of business to local communities.

JA was first introduced to Canada in 1955 when Ralph Baker, former President of the Standard Oil Company, recruited Vancouver’s business community to provide programs for 250 students. Since then, 2.5 million Canadian youth have participated in our business and entrepreneurial education programs. One of 17 charters across Canada, JABC relies wholly on the support and enthusiasm of our dedicated financial supporters and volunteers who bring the real world experience into the classroom. To best serve the variety of regions across the province we have offices in Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, Kelowna, Kamloops, and Prince George.

In 2006, the Business Laureates of British Columbia Hall of Fame was created by Junior Achievement to honour BC business leaders who have made outstanding contributions to our province and country. Each Laureate stands as a testament to the positive legacy they provide to the enterprising youth of our province.

Junior Achievement is the direct link between youth and business

For over fifty years, Junior Achievement (JA) in British Columbia has been creating the kind of workforce that companies want to hire by serving as an advocate for business in BC schools. It is the only organization in the province dedicated to bridging the talent gap and advocating a business career by delivering education programs to youth in elementary, middle and high schools.
